LAWN BOWLS ISLE OF MAN
As the domestic season draws to a close the National Triples competitions saw the last 4 teams in both the men’s and ladies’ events playoff in a round robin format for the title. In the ladies’ event there was an even spread of those ladies representing the Island at the forthcoming European Championships across the 4 sides in contention. The matches were fiercely contested with some impressive performances on display from the likes of Pam Makin and Caroline Whitehead neither of whom were on the winning side at the end of the day. Taking the honours were the only undefeated triple comprising Libby Andrade, Karen Slack and Dee Lewis. This completes a full set for Dee as the most successful lady bowler in the club this season who has amassed all 4 Ladies titles (Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours). Let’s hope her form continues for the trip to Wales.
In the Men’s event the contest was determined by the closest of margins. With 2 wins apiece for the triples of Roger Pullin, Kevin Quirk and John Kewley playing against Alan College, Adrian Slater and Clive McGreal it was a matter of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory when the triple skipped by John Kewley came back from a deficit of 6 shots with just 3 ends remaining to win by a single shot and claim a well deserved win. This marks another title for both John and Roger to add to their Fours title earlier in the season.
