IOM lawn bowlers recently travelled to the world famous Potters Resort for some expert tuition from three time Indoor World Champion Andy Thomson, and former World Champion and current Indoor World Number 1 Greg Harlow. Our members were also entered into a rinks competition as part of the experience, and they really showed the cailbre and talent our small island has to offer. As we know, but maybe not the world, due to our small membership we currently do not run any rinks competitions, and focus primarily on singles, pairs and the odd triples events. That noted, the teams showed that they were a force to contend with, showing some of the form that won the ladies and men their fours gold medals from the British Crown Dependencies test last year. From a 72 team strong field in the competition which ran over the period of four days, the team of Phil Addy, Pam Makin, John & Win Kewley qualified for the last 16 with some great bowling during their 4 games, seeing them win 3 games and draw 1, only losing out on a quarterfinal place on shot difference by the smallest of margins, one shot! The team of Phil Smith, Janice Pilling, Marcia & Alan Pearson drew 2 of their games and put down some great woods, but they had some unlucky breaks in the other 2 matches. Overall a great result for the teams on their first visit to Potters.
