LAWN BOWLS ISLE OF MAN
The inclement weather on Saturday forced a last minute change in venue for the Lawn Bowls IOM 2018 Ruby Cup competition. The Ruby Cup, an entered pairs event, was introduced last year to celebrate the club’s 40th Anniversary. This year 10 sets of pairs competed for the trophy over 4 rounds in which some excellent displays of bowls were seen. After the final round the scores were collated and the top two teams of Eric Maddocks & Clive McGreal and Bernice McGreal & Ina Scott were so close that only shot difference separated them with Eric & Clive narrowly edging ahead to retain the trophy they won last year. Special mention of credit must go to Ina Scott who in her first season bowling has shown she will be a force to be reckoned with next season.
Three of the four finalists were part of a group of 12 Lawn Bowlers who the weekend before made the annual trip to Scotland for a very enjoyable bowls weekend. The group played in 2 friendly matches and 2 Open Competitions with Clive & Bernice McGeal & David Quirk making it to the semifinal of Saturdays competition and Philip Smith, Marcia & Alan Pearson & Eric Maddocks reaching the semifinal of the Sunday competition. The Sunday at Camelon Bowling Club competition was a repeat of 2 years ago when Philip Smith & Marcia Pearson reached the semifinal also.
