There was a sea of red club shirts in Onchan Park, no not members of a certain English football club, but the large amount of members of the Lawn Bowls Club, Onchan Park who had entered this years annual Onchan Triples Competition. The large number of entries included 1 visiting Manxman from Australia and 1 of our junior bowlers. The competitors were randomly drawn into 10 triples teams. Each team played 4 ends with the first 3 bowls closest to the jack, regardless of which team bowled them scoring 3pts, 2pts, 1 point respectively, therefore 6 points being on offer for each end with 24 points in total over each set of 4 ends. To increase the degree of difficulty the mat length was set to altered lengths each end ranging from 23 metres to tee to tee. After each set of 4 ends each team moved to a different rink to face new opposition. At the conclusion of 3 sets of 4 ends a welcome half time break of an excellent buffet was enjoyed while scores were collated showing that 7 teams were still in contention to win the competition. After resumption of play the 4th set proved to be decisive in achieving a winning team. The triples team of Marcia Pearson, Gordon Drinkwater & Philip Watterson with a total score of 67 points were declared the winners of the Onchan Triples Competition 2022.
